Winterize Your Outdoor Faucets!

- 3:38 pm - December 10th, 2021

We stress the importance of preventing your indoor pipes from freezing in order to avoid expensive plumbing repairs and water damage, but what about your outdoor plumbing? More specifically, the faucets (or hose spigots) that you won’t be using for a few months?

There are steps you can take to protect those during the winter as well! Head to the hardware store and get yourself some insulated outdoor faucet covers, then follow these steps:

  1. Disconnect Hoses. Failure to remove hoses can cause water to remain trapped and make it more likely that the faucet will freeze. Additionally, it will make it impossible to put a cover on the faucet itself.

  2. Inspect the Faucets. Before you cover them up, make sure there is no noticeable damage or leaks. If you do find any problems, reach out to E.T. Lawson – our plumbers are here to help!

  3. Drain the Spigot and Pipes. Getting all the water out of the pipes and spigot will help significantly reduce the risk of freezing and any potential damage that could result in a costly repair.

  4. Install Those Outdoor Faucet Covers. Apply the covers and rest assured that your outdoor plumbing faucets are protected from the elements!
