Preparing Your Home & Heating System for Winter

- 5:31 pm - October 23rd, 2020

Believe it or not, winter is on its way! Soon you’ll be relying more heavily on your heating system as the temperatures continue to drop. There are some things, however, that you should do before the seasons change over. Here are some tips on how to prepare your heating system for this coming Hampton Roads winter!

Change or Clean Air Filters

Dirty air filters in your furnace can cause several problems, such as preventing your system from heating your home adequately and efficiently. Stay on top of furnace filter changes throughout the heating months to keep your system working properly.

Seal Air Leaks

Prevent drafts and stop wasting energy in your home by sealing windows and doors with caulk and weather stripping. Leaky ductwork can be sealed with mastic or aluminum tape. We can also help with air leaks through our weatherization services!

Test Alarms and Detectors

Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are essential to your safety. Replace batteries regularly and replace your smoke detectors every 10 years. Push the test button on each device to ensure that they are working properly.

Schedule System Maintenance

As an E.T. Lawson customer, your heating system is always well cared for! Regular maintenance from our highly trained technicians keeps your equipment running efficiently and prevents any costly repairs or mid-winter breakdowns.
