Heating during the winter and cooling during the summer, your conditioned air travels along the same pathways: the ductwork of your HVAC system. Being in contact with warm air for a period of time and then with cooler air can cause the metal of the ducts to expand and contract, leaving you with gaps and spaces that let the air escape!
Misaligned or separated ducts can cause…
Weak Comfort Coverage. A leak in the ductwork will lower the air pressure inside the ducts, preventing the air from traveling as far as you need it in order to reach every room of the home.
Rising Utility Bills. As air escapes from the ducts, your HVAC equipment is working hard to replace it by running longer than normal. This leads to rising utility costs, not to mention an increase in wear and tear on the system!
Poor Indoor Air Quality. Dust and other contaminants will be drawn in through spaces in the ductwork and recirculated into the home. Similarly, it can permit moisture to enter and cause the growth of bacteria and mold.
