Maintaining Safety With Smoke and CO Detectors

- 11:16 am - August 21st, 2020

Being comfortable isn’t just about staying warm in winter or cool in summer. It’s about knowing you and your family are safe from hidden dangers, such as carbon monoxide leaks and fire hazards! At E.T. Lawson we install modern smoke and CO detectors that provide Hampton Roads homeowners with that extra peace of mind they need to truly feel comfortable in their own homes.

What makes smoke detectors important?

You know the old adage, “Where there’s smoke there’s fire.” A smoke detector is designed to go off when smoke enters the detector in order to notify the occupants who may be asleep or in another area of the home that there’s a potential fire. Without a smoke detector, a fire could grow out of control before it’s noticed by anyone.

What makes CO detectors important?

Carbon monoxide, or CO, is an odorless gas, which makes it nearly impossible to detect without CO detectors. High levels of CO can be extremely dangerous, resulting in CO poisoning and – if gone unnoticed – being potentially fatal to occupants of the home.

Don’t skimp on the maintenance of your smoke and CO detectors!

Follow these simple rules to ensure your safety devices are working properly:

  • Test your detectors once a month

  • Change the batteries in your detectors twice a year

  • Clean the detectors with a feather duster or vacuum monthly to keep dust and other debris away from the sensor

  • Familiarize yourself and your family with the sounds of the detectors and what they mean, which should be covered in the owner’s manuals, and establish a plan for when the alarms go off.

Find that peace of mind that helps you feel really comfortable in your home with newly installed smoke and CO detectors from E.T. Lawson! Contact us online to learn more about our range of electrical services.
