Fire Safety Practices for Winter

- 3:13 pm - November 6th, 2020

During a cold winter, homeowners do whatever they can to keep warm. This often results in an increase in house fires. As your local, full-service home comfort provider, we want to be sure our customers stay warm in a safe manner!

With that being said, here are a few fire prevention tips to protect you and your family from any hidden dangers:

  • Keep your heating system tuned-up! A well-maintained heating system will operate more efficiently, but it also ensures that it is operating safely and reduces the risk of a no-heat emergency. For a little extra protection, learn more about our Service Agreements!

  • Test the smoke alarms around your home, and make sure you replace the batteries with fresh ones if it has been a while since you’ve changed them. If you can’t remember when the last time was that you changed them, assume it needs to be done. Better safe than sorry!

  • Avoid overloading receptacles and using extension cords for long periods of time. This is especially important holiday lights and other decorations that can contribute to the risk of fire. To protect your outdoor lighting display, be sure your outdoor receptacles are GFIs, and covered properly to guard against wet weather. Not sure if you’re protected? Ask an E.T. Lawson electrician for help!

  • When storing holiday gifts, empty boxes, important papers, or anything that could ignite a flame, keep them away from heat sources, such as space heaters, your furnace or boiler, and heating vents.

The most important thing you can remember is that E.T. Lawson is always here for you to keep you safe, warm and comfortable! If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us online, or give us a call.
